Design software for xTool lasers

xTool Creative Space imports SVG and DXF happily. What it does not do well is boolean work — welding, offsetting and contouring are far quicker here, before the file ever reaches it.

Exports drop straight into xTool's software

Export SVG or DXF and import it into xTool Creative Space with File → Import. Layers arrive separated so you can assign processing type and power per layer.

The xTool workflow, step by step

  1. 1

    Design and boolean

Weld, slice and offset in the browser — it is faster and more predictable than doing it in Creative Space.

  2. 2

    Separate operations

Assign cut, score or engrave per layer so import maps them to processing types.

  3. 3

    Export and import

Export SVG or DXF and import into xTool Creative Space.

Why design outside xTool’s software

Because the design step is where the time goes, and it is the step machine software treats as an afterthought. Boolean operations — weld, slice, contour, offset — are either missing, paywalled or slow in most bundled editors, and none of them lay out a mat for you or personalise a hundred items from a spreadsheet.

Working in the browser also means the tool is wherever you are. There is nothing to install, nothing to update before you can reopen yesterday’s project, and it runs on Linux and ChromeOS where several of these desktop applications simply do not.

What exports correctly

  • Real physical dimensions in inches or millimetres — nothing arrives scaled wrong.
  • Closed paths only, so the machine can tell inside from outside.
  • Text converted to outlines, so no font reference can fail on import.
  • One named layer per operation, so tool mapping happens automatically.

Formats this exports

xTool questions

SVG, unless you hit an import problem. SVG carries colour, which Creative Space uses to separate layers; DXF carries geometry only.
