What people make with birthday sublimations
Party banners, cake toppers, favour bags, milestone shirts, balloon vinyl and the number that goes on a one-year-old's onesie, those are the pieces this collection gets used for. In this format they go on polyester shirts, poly-coated tumblers, mousepads, ceramic mugs and sublimation blanks, polyester or a poly coating only, never untreated cotton.
Printing and pressing
Export the finished artwork as PNG at the size needed for your blank. Print using compatible sublimation ink and transfer paper, then follow the blank and transfer manufacturer’s instructions for temperature, time, pressure and mirroring. A mug, tumbler and shirt can require different equipment and settings; test your exact combination before a batch.
Getting birthday designs right
Sublimation ink bonds only to polyester and polymer coating, so the blank decides the result more than the artwork does, the same file is vivid on a coated mug and washed out on cotton. Milestone numerals are the personalisation point, keep the numeral on its own layer for a one-field change per order. Cake toppers cut in cardstock need a deep-point blade and a strong-grip mat, and they need the design to have a solid base bar connecting the letters, an unconnected script topper falls apart the moment you lift it off the mat.
Exporting for your machine
Export PNG at final physical size and at least 300 DPI, then print onto sublimation paper. There is no cut line and no weeding, the design is pressed into polyester, not cut from vinyl.
For cutting projects, import the SVG into Cricut Design Space, Silhouette Studio and laser software and check the operation assigned to each layer before making the project. For a printed sheet, the print-then-cut guide covers registration and bleed.
